Casting for Conservation #101

Jackson Hole “One Fly”  Fedora and the Fly

I have never gone, attended or fished in it. I often think I would like to, it is not because I think I can survive it, but rather just is on the bucket list of things to do.

Don’t you have one of those? Bucket list I mean, one for fly fishing and one for art, one for music and one for food. Hmmm that IS a lot of bucket lists.

After 26 years of the Jackson Hole One Fly,  this event has raised almost  ten million dollars,  funding conservation projects which conserve trout fisheries. From dam removal, fish ladders, and exStream habitat improvement for trout and evaluating improved habitats for success. Not only for the trout, but for all of us fishermen as well, by adding toilets at boat ramps and educational programs for children and fisherman alike.

Having fun fishing I am sure was the beginning goal of the One Fly, but I believe, as they move through the 27th year,  the concern is how can we make it ALL BETTER, not the One Fly event alone, but for the many miles of stream banks supporting trout and for the multitudes of fly fishermen, businesses and industry supported by using them now and all the years to come for those future generations.

Good job One Fly!

Maybe someday I will be able to participate in this effort, for now tho, I will be satisfied to know that they are doing a good job of making it better.
