I am very proud today to know that my piece Gold Speal Spey was a featured work in two categories or groups on Fine Art America over the last few days. The art work was chosen as a feature piece in both groups, Fish Artists and Feathers Artists. A link to both locations is provided below.
The Piece entitled Gold Speal Spey .
This was one of the original sixteen flies found described in Knox, A. E. Autumns on the Spey. The original recipe called for bronze mallard flank, a back and breast feather from a heron, and tail feathers from a river spey cock. A very well revered book written that described the fishing life and techniques of Spey Fishing along the River Spey, as well as other hunting adventures of that era.
This work was hand painted on 100 % Pure Silk, with steam Set Dyes using the same technique above. The original is still available for purchase, you may contact the artist.
I an happy to announce the work entitled “The Catch”
was also a feature on Fine Art America in the group Fish Artists. My hand painted work on silk is the primary focus of my art. I have not been so turned on by painting until I started in this medium. There is not feeling comparable to what I get when I hear the brushes whooshing across the silk as I apply the dyes. This painting was inspired by a close friend of mine who was talking to me online one day a few months ago and said he had been afraid to ask me to paint a fish he was proud of because he knew I was so busy. I laughed and told him send me the pictures and I will take a look at it. Well, he had failed to tell me it was a fish his son had caught on a trip they had taken together one summer. How cool is that, way to go dad!
